Who We Are

An Independent Testing Laboratory Built by Engineers

Microlab Testing operates as an  independent ISO 17025 tesitng laboratory specialising in metallurgical, materials, mechanical, civil, and performance testing. We serve manufacturers, EPC contractors, OEMs, infrastructure developers, and regulatory bodies where material integrity and compliance directly impact safety and lifecycle costs.

Our role is to deliver accurate, traceable test data that stands up to audits, investigations, and real service conditions. We partner with MNCs, OEMs, and R&D teams across automotive, aerospace, defence, plastics, rubber, paints, chemicals, metals, heavy engineering, water, ores, and minerals.

“Growth is driven by capability depth, not volume.”

Our Vision

To be the laboratory that engineers trust when the stakes are highest — where every test result is defensible, every interpretation is grounded in metallurgical science, and every report enables a clear engineering decision.

Our Mission

To deliver materials test data that is traceable to calibrated equipment, interpreted by qualified engineers, and structured for audit — supporting design validation, failure investigation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance for critical industries.

Our Journey

Two Decades of Building Capability

2004
Founded in Chennai

Started with a metallography lab, one OES spectrometer, and a simple premise: testing should be led by engineers, not machine operators.

2010
ISO 17025 Recognition

ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation established traceability and audit-readiness as non-negotiable standards.

2012
SEM/EDX Capability Launched

First commercial lab in South India to offer scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

2015
Fracture Mechanics Lab Commissioned

KIC, JIC, CTOD, and fatigue crack growth testing — another first for the private sector in the region.

2017
Paints & Coatings Lab

Expansion into protective and decorative coating evaluation — salt spray, adhesion, weathering, and accelerated ageing.

2018
Expansion to Coimbatore & Hosur

Extended coverage across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka's industrial corridors.

2019
SEM Commissioned

Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy — advanced fractography and elemental analysis for failure investigation.

2023
Composites & Polymer Lab Expanded

DSC, TGA, TMA, FTIR, video extensometer — comprehensive polymer and composite characterization.

2024
Dedicated Environment Lab

Purpose-built environmental testing facility — xenon arc weathering, UV exposure, thermal cycling, and humidity chambers.

2025
Structural Testing Facility

Multi-channel servo-hydraulic endurance test beds for automotive component durability. Private-sector alternative to ARAI/ICAT.

2026
FESEM + EBSD Installation

Thermo Fisher Field Emission SEM with EBSD detector — bringing R&D-grade crystallographic analysis to commercial testing. 900+ test parameters. 30,000+ clients. 500+ tests/day.

Leadership

Led by Engineers, Not Managers

SRB

S. R. Balasubramanian

Chief Executive Officer & Chief Metallurgist

Metallurgist with 30+ years across foundry technology, welding metallurgy, corrosion evaluation, and failure investigation. Built Microlab from a single-laboratory operation to a multi-site, multi-disciplinary testing institution serving 30,000+ clients. Personally oversees complex failure analysis investigations and NPCIL-grade testing protocols.

SB

Sudharsan Balasubramaniam

Director

Mechanical engineer driving Microlab’s expansion into advanced testing domains — fatigue & fracture mechanics, composite material characterization, polymer testing, structural endurance, and FE-SEM/EBSD analysis. Leads technology acquisition, laboratory automation, and new capability development.

What Defines Us

Four Pillars of Microlab Testing

01

Engineer-Led Interpretation

Your test report is not generated by software alone. A qualified engineer reviews every dataset, identifies anomalies, correlates results with microstructure and service conditions, and delivers interpretation — not just numbers.

02

Single-Roof Capability

Mechanical, chemical, metallographic, fatigue, fracture, corrosion, SEM/EDS/EBSD, environmental, composites, packaging, structural endurance, electrical, calibration — performed in-house, in one chain of custody.

03

In-House Specimen Preparation

CNC turning centres, VMC, and EDM wire-cut machines on-site. Specimens are machined to ASTM/ISO geometry within our facility — eliminating outsourcing delays and custody gaps.

04

Audit-Grade Documentation

Every report carries equipment ID, calibration traceability, ambient conditions, test method reference, and photographic evidence. Accepted by OEMs, EPCs, Lloyd’s, TUV, BV, NPCIL, BHAVINI, and AAI.

Discipline Leadership

Engineer-led teams with deep domain expertise

Mechanical Testing

Tensile, impact, hardness, bend, compression, fastener testing. Team experienced in ASTM, ISO, IS, and OEM-specific test methods across metals, polymers, and composites.

Chemical & Spectroscopy

OES, ICP-OES, XRF, wet chemistry, combustion analysis. Grade identification, trace-element analysis, and compositional certification for procurement.

Metallography & Failure Analysis

Microstructure characterisation, RCFA, fractography, weld evaluation. Led by engineers with experience in power, oil & gas, and automotive failure modes.

Fatigue, Fracture & Creep

Crack growth, fracture toughness, LCF/HCF, creep rupture. Specialists in damage-tolerance data generation for aerospace, defence, and energy sectors.

Corrosion & Environmental

Sour service qualification, salt spray, weathering, UV aging. Deep expertise in NACE, ASTM G-series, and OEM paint/coating qualification programs.

SEM / EDS / EBSD

Fractography, elemental mapping, phase identification, crystallographic texture. Operated by trained microscopists supporting failure analysis, R&D, and additive manufacturing.

Why an In-House Laboratory Matters

Direct control from sample receipt to report delivery

Chemical & Spectroscopy

OES, ICP-OES, XRF, wet chemistry, combustion analysis. Grade identification, trace-element analysis, and compositional certification for procurement.

Turnaround Compression

Because all disciplines are under one roof — mechanical, chemical, metallography, SEM, corrosion — multi-test programs don't wait for sample transit between labs. Faster data, fewer logistics.

Engineer Interpretation

Test results are reviewed by engineers who understand the engineering context — not just numbers on a page. When anomalies appear, the same team can pivot to failure analysis or additional testing.
