VOC & Emissions Testing

Interior Air Quality, Fogging & Substance Compliance

Qualification of self-adhesive labels across substrates, applications, and performance requirements — from FMCG shelf labels to pharmaceutical track-and-trace and logistics barcodes.

Fogging Test

Condensable volatiles from interior materials — plastics, foams, fabrics, adhesives. Both gravimetric method (mass of condensate) and reflectometric method (optical measurement).

Total VOC (TVOC)

Emission measurement from interior plastics, PU foams, adhesives, and leather. Quantification of individual VOC compounds and TVOC value by thermal desorption GC-MS.

Odour Testing

Subjective odour evaluation by trained panel. Grading on the VDA 270 scale (1–6) for interior trim materials and components — new car smell qualification.

Formaldehyde Emission

Formaldehyde and acetaldehyde release from wood-based panels, textiles, leather, and composite materials. Perforator method and gas analysis flask method.

RoHS Screening

Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr⁶⁺, PBB, PBDE — all six regulated substances in IEC 62321. XRF screening followed by wet chemical confirmation where required.

PAH Analysis

17 PAH compounds including BaP, BbFA, BkFA, CHR, BaA, BeP, DBAhA, BghiP, IcP, ANT, FLT, PYR, NAP, ACY, ACE, FLU. GC-MS quantification per IEC 62321 Part 10 and AfPS GS 2019:01.

Phthalates

Quantification of 6 phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DIBP, DNOP, DINP) in PVC components, soft trims, cables, and gaskets. GC-MS after extraction per REACH Annex XVII limits.

PFAS Screening

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in textiles, coatings, foams, and components. LC-MS/MS multi-compound screening for PFAS compliance — including PFOA, PFOS, and PFAS substitutes.

Understanding DV, PV, and PPAP testing requirements

Design Validation (DV)

Pre-production / prototype stage

Verifies that the design meets functional requirements under worst-case conditions. Typically involves environmental, mechanical, and durability testing of prototype samples. Test plan driven by design FMEA and specification requirements.

Production Validation (PV)

Production-intent tooling

Confirms that the production process consistently produces parts meeting design requirements. Same test matrix as DV but using production-tooled samples. Validates manufacturing process capability.

PPAP Documentation

Customer submission package

Complete submission package including material test reports, dimensional results, process capability studies, and appearance approval. Traceable test reports accepted by OEMs for Levels 3–5 PPAP submissions.
